Covid Restrictions Calgary Dec 8th, 2020 – Alberta government has once again imposed a state of emergency on November 24th to combat record-high rates of COVID-19 infections in the province.
New Restrictions announced on December 8th: The province is shutting down restaurants, casinos, gyms, recreation centers, libraries, theatres, and personal service providers, such as hair salons, barbers. Outdoor skating rinks and ski hills will be allowed to remain open. Retail stores and churches can remain open but at 15 percent capacity,
Masks
- Masks are mandatory for all indoor workplaces.
- Masks are mandatory on public transit, public vehicles (for-hire), and in all public indoor spaces.
Gathering Limits
- All indoor and outdoor social gatherings – public and private – are prohibited.
- Close contacts are limited to household members only.
- Churches with 15% effective December 13th.

- Indoor Recreational Centres, YMCA — Closed
- Devonian Gardens — open with restrictions
- Lost or impounded cats and dogs – Open with restrictions

- Pools, weight rooms, and cardio — Closed
- Calgary Soccer Centre — Closed

WHAT ARE CLOSED
- Restaurants, bars, pubs, and lounges

- Community centers, children’s play places or indoor playgrounds,
- All levels of sport (professional, semi-professional, junior, collegiate/universities and amateur) unless given an exemption by the chief medical officer of health.

- Museums and galleries
- Libraries
- Indoor entertainment centers including amusement parks, water parks, bingo halls, and racing centers
- Indoor fitness, recreation, sports and physical activity centers, including dance and yoga studios, gyms, martial arts, gymnastics, and private or public swimming pools
- Personal services such as hair salons and barbershops, esthetics, manicure, pedicure, body waxing, and make-up, piercing and tattoo services
- Wellness services including acupuncture, massage, and reflexology
WHAT ARE OPEN WITH RESTRICTIONS
- Places of worship with 15% of fire code capacity
- All retail stores including Grocery stores, Pharmacies, Clothing stores, Computer and technology stores, Hardware, Automotive, Farmers markets, with 15% of fire code capacity
- Professional services such as lawyers, mediators, accountants, and photographers: open by appointment only and not permitted to offer walk-in services.
- Hotels may remain open but must follow restrictions – no spas, pools, or in-person dining. Room services only.
- Parks, Ski Hills – Open
- Outdoor recreation like outdoor skating rinks.
- Health services, including physiotherapy or acupuncture, social or protective services, shelters for vulnerable persons, emergency services, child care, and not-for-profit community kitchens or charitable kitchens will remain open for in-person attendance.
Schools:
At-home learning for students in Grades 7 through 12 starting Monday. Other students are to do their schooling from home starting Dec. 18 before winter break. All students are to resume at-home learning after the break and can return to school Jan . 11.
